Christmas Services 2013

The real message of Christmas

The saying that ‘Christmas is a time for giving’, is a popular little tool that all parents have in their arsenal during the festive season. It seems the perfect antidote to the constant chorus of ‘I want!’ Unfortunately, it is also a sentiment that potentially leads us away from the real message of Christmas.

Christmas is about getting. In fact, Christmas is about getting the most valuable and expensive gift imaginable. Now – before you pass this news on to your spouse or your parents – there is something else you need to know.

The original message of Christmas has nothing to do with what will appear under your tree on the 25th December – it actually has nothing to do with a tree at all! Christmas is a time when we remember a gift that has already been given.

About 2,000 years ago, something wonderful happened. The world was given the greatest gift of all … the gift of the Lord Jesus. One of the eyewitness accounts in the Bible presents the real message of Christmas this way:

I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you, he is the Messiah, the Lord.

Luke 2:10

This Christmas, Grove Hill Evangelical Church would like to invite you to join us as we celebrate God’s extravagant gift of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.
