Pre-school

Building blocksWe have a happy and active group of children, and provide a stimulating environment in which children can learn and explore. We encourage each child individually helping them to use and develop all of their senses. Here is a brief explanation of how Preschool operates including our structure, policies and requirements which ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Hours

The Preschool is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday each full week of a normal school term. We begin at 9.30am and finish at 12noon, including a break-time for milk and biscuits. It would be appreciated if children were not brought before 9.30am, or collected after 12noon (except when the parent/ carer is on duty, or other exceptional circumstances), as we are insured only for official Preschool hours.

Activities

A typical morning consists of varied free play eg: clay modelling, building blocks, painting, drawing, water play, a Wendy house, shop, climbing frame, slide apparatus, puzzles, table games etc. We have a quiet reading corner with a wide variety of books, many of which are on library loan and so the selection changes every month. We also enjoy group activities such as music, singing, nursery stories, Bible stories and prayers. Rising Fives (children above 4 years old) have their own special time where they can develop writing, colour and number skills.

Pre-school learning allianceFees

Fees are payable in advance in the first week of each half-term. Full fees must be paid even though your child may be absent at certain times for various reasons. Individual payment slips and receipts* will be given to each parent/ guardian.

*We regret that we cannot give refunds for absence.

Absences

Parents/ Guardians are asked to use their discretion in keeping your child away if they are unwell, especially if it is the result of an infectious illness.

Clothing

It is advisable that children wear older clothes in case they get soiled. Cardigans and pullovers should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Please provide a small hand towel for your child’s personal use. Please do not allow your child to bring sweets, chocolates, crisps etc. to Preschool. However, on birthdays we do sing “Happy Birthday” and the child is welcome to bring in a cake to share. Toys should not be brought to Preschool, except ‘comfort toys’.

Rota Duties

All parents/ guardians are required to lend a hand in joining a rota duty. (If you are unable to do so, a small additional fee will be payable). A full rota duty begins at 9.15am and finishes at 12noon or when everything is completed. Please ensure that you swop your rota duty if you are unable to do it on the allocated day.

We must be informed in advance if somebody other than a parent will be collecting your child at the end of Preschool.
